A Kansas Town suburb voted on Monday to ban LGBTQ conversion therapy for minors.
The town council for Prairie Village, Kan., voted 11-1 on Monday to adopt an ordinance banning the controversial follow, in accordance to The Kansas City Star.
Below the Prairie Village ordinance, certified medical or mental wellness vendors these types of as counselors, psychologists and therapists, are not authorized to give “conversion remedy or reparative treatment to a minimal if the provider receives compensation in exchange for these kinds of companies.”
The ordinance does not prohibit or restrict the ability of those people who are possibly in assist of or in opposition to the practice to communicate about gender identity or sexual orientation to minors in types that do not represent conversion remedy.
Underneath the ordinance, providers that violate the ordinance could face a high-quality of no more than $1,000 but not jail time.
Conversion therapy seeks to use counseling to modify a person’s gender id or sexual orientation, but various professional medical associations have explained there is no proof to support the success of such therapies and that they may be dangerous to youngsters.
